The Day-to-day Grind: Does your MMO need a reboot?

MMO reboots, revamps, & pseudo-sequels appear all the rage these days, from Global Agenda 2 to Darkfall: Unholy Wars to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. At times it makes sense to start over and take developed assets & lessons forward to an infinitely improved version. Once in a while, the 1st launch of an MMO is so disastrous that only by hitting the reset button does the DFUW gold game have a chance for the future.

But what about your preferred MMO? Is it in sore need for a immense overhaul or a big reboot? Did it fail to gain a substantial audience the first time around? Does it need the push of further development and media coverage to prosper in its 2nd chance?

If so, let us know what you'd recommend developers do if they rebooted your game. How could they feasibly make it much better & perhaps take a slightly distinctive course than what exists today?

Darkfall: Unholy Wars turns its sight to the Deadeye

Still having a tough time trying to establish what you're going to roll when Darkfall: Unholy Wars releases subsequent month? Well, here's an additional candidate for your approval: the Deadeye.

The Deadeye is a sub-class in the Skirmisher role that focuses on ranged damage. A trusty bow is all the Deadeye wants to bring the pain to single & numerous targets. Some of the class' capabilities include an unstoppable arrow, a ranged debuff, a salvage of arrows, an exploding arrow, plus a dead-on Trueshot attack.

Investigate the Deadeye in action after the break!

Darkfall Unholy Wars: if the server doesn't lag, this game will be fantastic

I played darkfall right when it came out, for about a week or 2

it was REALLY fun, everyone was ganking each other the towns were cool and it was really fun running around trying not to die when there were people everywhere and ppl were trying to harvest and stuff

i really like playing when servers start for the first time and everyone is on the same level

the reason why I stopped playing was because of the graphics, and the server lag
I'm sure they address the lag later on, but in the beggining it was quite irritating and I didn't feel like dealing with lag AND really sub-par graphics

they fixed the graphics so I am really really hoping the server won't lag
back then i'm pretty sure there was only an EU server which might have been a big cause of the lag as well, though honestly I don't really remember

tl;dr: excited and confident that if the servers don't lag, the DFUW gold game will be a success even if it's buggy.

DarkFall not working for a considerable amount of individuals!

DarkFall UW is not working for plenty of individuals frequently with Windows eight! Just reading the official forum! Bummer I have Windows 8 & its also not working for me! (Lets hope they will fix this and will not delay beta !)

Not to piss on your bonfires, nevertheless I have windows 8 and it doesnt work, for the reason that I have a windows 7 vmware machine also running & ive fitted it on there fine and it is patching.

so yeah windows 8 users unless you have a virtual machine handy or can duel boot will be extremely unlikely that your playing the Darkfall Unholy Wars gold come monday .

Just to add to this for the nay sayers, the error being thrown is
The thread 0x2568 has exited with code 0 (0x0).

Darkfall Unholy Wars: Question regarding Roles/Schools

I've really been looking for a game that offers players a deep gameplay customization system. I was wondering if this DFUW gold game will offer multiple Schools within each role? We know from Archeage that they have 120 different combinations. Do we know if this game will offer customization on a level like that? This game looks interesting but for me it's always been about giving the Darkfall Unholy Wars gold player many choices in how they make/build their character. Last game that gave me so many choices was GW1 and before then was NWN1/2.

IIRC There are 3 rolls, Warrior, Skirmisher and Elementalist. These are broken into 4 sub classes, you get to pick 2 of them. (You can change your roll at any time)

So I could choose to my own playstyle but I wouldn't go as for to say you would be unique.

No but it offers non instanced sieging and action combat and not tab targeting.

Darkfall Unholy Wars: where is the purchase and game plans?

Q:So we are almost a week out till the new launch date, and still no more info released.  It was said in the webvid, there would be pre-purchase info and plans with perks.....yet we have no new info.

A:Actually the DFUW gold game got Greenlighted onto Steam last week, Tasos is likely to announce preorder info later this week (go watch the intervew :)

It was already approved through Greenlinght and Valve is now in process of making the distribution contract with Aventurine. I would expect DF to pop into steam later this week or at launch the latest.

it would be cool if it did actually get on steam that soon.  but i dont think it will.  perpetuum got greenlit a few months ago.  and it still isn't on steam yet.

I'm a bit worried as well. 7 days to go and there's little to no word on cost, pre-orders, incentives, etc...
At this point I'd hope we'd have daily communication up until launch. Just a note here and there to keep faith alive in the 12/12 launch date.

How many pre-ordered?

What do you think will be a rough estimate by Monday on the numbers of copies sold?

I'm thinking around 15K by Monday.

I replied to you in another thread for my reasoning. Perhaps if I didn't do what I did perhaps we wouldn't have pre-orders ready today?

When next time AV fucks up as bad as they did on Wednesday, I'll do the same again. Until then, I'm gonna support them with everything I've got. Action and reaction.

if anyone seriously belies its over 5,000 they are nuts.
Where are they? Certainly not on the forums.
I'd say maybe 2k pre-ordered.

What happened to the Maharim models?

The ones we've now look pretty weird. I thought we were getting an updated model that looked like the ole ones but less cartoony?

I ran a look for Maharim models & located no threads. I looked by way of 4 pages and identified none. Where are these other threads?

Darkfall Unholy Wars: Totally new to Darkfall, help me decide to buy DFUW

Hey guys, I have tried this game a VERY long time ago and the only reason not have played more was that because it felt overwhelming and made me lost without some basic tutorial to get me through the ropes.
Anyways, now I am looking at this new game and it seems better thought and a good sandbox title.
So my questions are:

Do you think this Darkfall Unholy War gold game will have solid crafting and gathering mechanics/system to cater for the PVE players who are into it?
Do you see this game surviving in the next 4-5 years?
Will a new player like myself who loves PVP and PVE, learn about the game enough to be competitive and contribute to the clan, without ever playing the first Darkfall?

Crafting i cant say to much on it since they didnt reveal to much on it at the moment

I dont see the game last 5 years since there seems to be alot of great titles coming out from AAA devs in the next few years hoiwever i think it will last about 3 years without any issues what so ever, If a AAA game company makes a game with sandboxy element like there all seem to be starting to do it will prob take players away from darkfall however i dont xpect that happening for atleast a few years. thing with Av is they can be a tad slow to pushing out content compared to a large AAA company due to the amount of employee different but they do well with that they have.

The original darkfall didnt have to much of a learnign curve although on release of original darkfall there wasnt realy a tutorial so it took some players a bit to grasp the basics, they did bring tutorial in later in darkfall 1.0 also there a safe zone in the starter area where u dont need to worry bout player killing you so you can focus on lkearning the controls agaist NPCs. Some thing you need to know about darkfall that will differ from other games that you may be use to (WoW type games) first off there no tab targeting which u should know its got a fps style combatm, secondly the basic goblin mobs could kill you if you wernt carful and they could be somewaht unpridicatable which makes it intresting compared to other games, thirdly this is a big one bank your extra loot and gold regulary and when your going to farm/PvE make sure everything you dont need for your trip is in the bank :)

cause of the full loot which i hopeing you are aware of :) (full loot makes thing exciting in pvp risk vs reward) Those are the 3 big things you need to know when coming into darkfall. If you love open world pvp in games you will definetly love darkfall imo, also joining a clan is your best friend when ur starting always nice to have some guildies to go out with to farm/pvp :)

I played Darkfall from closed beta so I can tell you exactly what it was like. The changes they are making are only going to make it even better but the core features are still there.

Crafting: You're able to mine/chop/gather/fish any water/tree/rock/bush that you see... That's what makes Darkfall so special, it's unlike any game you have ever played. You can literally walk upto any rock and just start gathering. When your within safe zone of a town the yield of resources aren't as high as outside of the boundaries as you may not want to take that risk.
With Darkfall being a full loot game, you have PvPers around who look for AFK people though so you always have to keep your eyes and ears open whenever your gathering.

PvE Monsters: They PvE side of things were quite boring due to the way things worked but that's all been changed. The awesome thing I loved about the PvE side of things were that it really felt like ONE MASSIVE OPEN WORLD and sandbox. You would have a massive area where the Goblin's lived and they have extremely far detection range which is realistic and they will be quite difficult to kill solo.
At times you may have to shoot one from far and pull them closer to your and definately think about what your doing. Darkfall's freedom makes it just incredible and an experience you will have never felt before and I'm hoping this new release of the game will make it a huge big thing, it had the potential and now that potential will hopefully be met with the new release.

ALWAYS BARE IN MIND: This is a PvP orientated DFUW gold game so ever part of the PvE will be somewhat PvP related in some way. You cannot live in a single town for your entire game lifespan. You may have to travel to other towns to make trades or merchant trips to get better prices as some towns have more iron, trees and also since mounts are race bound so that only elfs can make elven mounts etc BUT they can trade them mean's that Dwarfs will have to travel or find a elf who has them specfic mounts for sale.
